I am so ready to be done with braces that I don't think I'm even excited to get them off any more. Am I really that defeated? I think it will be a majority relief and frustration. Frustration that it took so DANG long. I'm going to homecoming at UR this weekend, and last night I was thinking to myself how nice it would be to have them off by then. Then it occurred to me that I had those same hopes in May. MAY! It's NOVEMBER. SWEET UNCLE JESSIE'S SIDEBURNS.

Second off, can a cocoon really open in November? Leaves are falling, plants are dying, bugs are freezing, birds are migrating, chestnuts are roasting on an open fire, and jack frost is nipping at my nose. Frankly, now I'd rather snuggle up with some spiked 'nog in a turtle neck and Christmas sweater vest than shave my chest, lube up in self tanning lotion and take post-cocoon pics (because that is definitely happening, btw). I still need to fly a photographer out here, though. I'll only take bids from Evan or Chun Li.
Part of my frustration is that I couldn't get a frickin bone thrown at me from the orthodontist's office. Two weeks ago I got impressions taken for retainers. They said 10ish days til my next appointment to remove the brackets. They didn't contact me, so I emailed yesterday. No response, so I called this morning:
"Oh hi. Yeah I got your email but haven't responded back yet because we don't have your retainers in. It usually takes about a week after impressions."
"I did impressions two weeks ago."
"Oh......Welllll....hang on a second....
....it looks like your retainers are here. Can you come in tomorrow?"
This exchange evokes fears I've had throughout this process. Did I use the wrong orthodontist? Would this have gone faster if I pushed back more and were a squeakier wheel?
Either way, I'm going in tomorrow to get the brackets removed. I'm not saying this is "cocoon opening", because I still need to wear retainers 24 hours a day for a few months and still need to whiten, among other things, but it will obviously feel good to finally be out from behind bars...er...wires.

ReplyDeleteBro, you'll get no pity from those of us that spent most of our formative years (13-17) in braces, when we could have been dating and kissing girls like real dudes did during that time.
As for photography, I think you should reconsider Cate. Why? She's seen you in your boxers. Several times. So THAT wouldn't be awkward. Also, she's PHENOMENAL with working the lenses and getting the right color mix in shots. She'll pamper you Drew.
I think "sweet danny tanner" will be my catch phrase for the weekend.

i mean, i'm not worried about ME being comfortable. in fact when have i ever been concerned about that? i'd be more concerned about HER being comfortable slash scarred for life. and if SHE's uncomfortable, then Gustavo is uncomfortable, and i can NOT allow that.
